Stage 2

Years 3 and 4 are such an exciting period in students’ development! They continue to develop their independence and are introduced to greater responsibility in a range of contexts. We encourage creative thinking and present an integrated program that remains grounded in a Biblical worldview. Our passionate teachers scaffold, support, prompt, encourage and conference with students as ideas of a more abstract nature are introduced, and students gain greater confidence in their abilities. Each child is valued and respected, and there is an expectation that each student will work productively to reach their potential.

Stage 2 Curriculum

Students in Years 3 and 4 continue to build on the strong foundational skills that have been developed in Kindergarten to Year 2. They are provided with a more significant opportunity to develop independence in all areas, especially in being more responsible for their learning and the challenges they are willing to take. Students set individual learning goals and evaluate these throughout the year to work towards new goals and understanding.

All students at the College learn from the curriculum as mandated by the NSW Education Standards Authority, which includes six Key Learning Areas for a well-rounded education. The six areas include Mathematics, English, Science, Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE: History and Geography), Creative Arts, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). All of these Key Learning Areas are taught through a biblical world view, alongside the College’s Building Learning Power framework to develop learning skills or dispositions and the content to be learnt.

Stage 2 Camps

The Years 3 and 4 camps take place together in a bush setting. The purpose of the Years 3 and 4 camp is to develop positive peer networks, be involved in team-building exercises, build resilience and co-operation skills.

This camp takes place in two parts. Year 4 spend three days and two nights at camp, while Year 3 enjoy spending two days and one night at camp. This gradual introduction to College camping helps our students adjust smoothly to being away from home and develop skills and responsibilities through life experience.

The Year 4 experience has the added excitement of two nights away from home. It focuses on life skills and responsibilities by completing self-care tasks and chores needed at the camp (washing up, making beds, setting tables etc.).
